Ghost Ships - Hamilton & Scourge
by Emily Cain - Ghost Ships is the definitive photoessay and archeological record of the
ships Hamilton and Scourge which capsized on Lake Ontario in 1813. Relocated in 300
ft. of water in the early 1970s, these ships are preserved magnificently and are becoming
the target of tech divers. The book Ghost ships recounts their careers and includes
many excellent color underwater photographs of the vessels taken by the Jacques Cousteau
expedition to them. The ships are upright and intact and are in astounding condition
for their age. The book also shows photos of some of the human remains scattered
about the wrecks, so hopefully the Michigan legislature won't outlaw the book. It is
now out of print and is a collectors item. I have seen a few of them for sale in
recent years for about $30.
