Encyclopedia of American Shipwrecks  3DIAMOND.jpg (1438 bytes)
by Bruce D. Berman - This book is one of the early guides to include historical Great Lakes wrecks.  Berman's encyclopedia primarly lists wrecks of the Atlantic and Pacific seaboard, but includes a very good section on Great Lakes wrecks listing several hundred of them.  Berman seems to have drawn his information primarily from the US Lifesaving Service, Merchant Vessel Registers and government documents.  Information on each vessel is fairly sketchy, including only name, date of loss, place of loss, tonnage, etc.  No photos or history are included.  Still, many wrecks in this list are enumerated nowhere else, making the book a good reference for hardcore researchers.
